課程概述

本課程以歐洲音樂美學經典文獻之閱讀與分析為主，時間的範圍大致為早期現代的十七世紀一直到十九世紀中期。雖然本課程並不就特定問題就問題而言，但仍然會循著現代性的脈絡 所閱讀的作者則包括十七世紀的 Vicenzo Galilei, Mersenne, Descartes, Burmeister，十八世紀的 Batteux, Rameau, Rousseau, Diderot, Webb, Sulzer, M. Mendelssohn, 十九世紀的 Hoffmann, Helmholtz, Hauptmann, Hanslick等。本課程使用閱讀版本嘗試以原典的原始版本作為閱讀材料，將會利用部份網路資源，例如 Early English Books Online (EEBO), 18th Century Collections Online (ECCO), 法國國家圖書館的 Gallica 等。 

課程目標
 (一) 本課程主要目標為訓練學生經典閱讀、理解與詮釋的能力。
(二) 教師將帶領學生逐步做文獻回顧、經典閱讀、理論探討。
(三) 學期中除經典著作閱讀之外，另穿插經典音樂作品的聆聽討論，期能兼顧理論與評論。 
課程要求
 本課程主要目標為經典的閱讀理解，修課同學應盡量閱讀文獻，以便有效參與討論。除了期末書面報告外，本課程修課同學於期中有二次口頭心得報告機會。另外，評量標準如下：

一、課堂報告 40%
二、上課參與討論 20%
三、學期報告 40%
